Welcome to the first edition of our bi-monthly newsletter, which will keep you up to date with all the latest news and offers. We will also give you some useful tips along the way from Marine Tune’s workshop.
Job of the Month
It was hard to pick a winner for this month so we will give it to two memorable jobs. The first was a job on a 50’ cruiser that was recognised with the boating industry’s ‘boat of the year’ award a few years back. This beautiful boat just changed hands and our job was a full engine service and prepare her for delivery to Queensland, which involved a fair bit of time catching up on some forgotten items that where difficult to access and service due to the tight access. Anyway a week later and a few test runs she was ready to go to QLD along with half our workshop!
The second job was a referral from one of our good clients, the yacht was so slow under motor they had trouble parking it against the tide outside their Sydney home, it also blew lots of black smoke and had just being “fixed” recently by another workshop. This is a fairly common problem, which is mostly caused by a dirty prop and hull, bad fuel or a blocked exhaust. At first we where a bit confused with the details that it had recently being fixed, after a few checks we had her slipped and found the prop badly fouled which slowed the boat down to about 2knts. An annual antifoul, engine service and other items attended to soon saw her back up to 6.5knts and a happy owner sailing back to Sydney after signing up to our Monthly Boat Check Program.

Example: You get your annual engine service from us on March 15, 2007 for $600 – you are now eligible for a $60 credit on any future work carried out by us before September 15, 2007.

Would you like to earn some extra credit dollars? To spread the word about our great service we are willing to pay you to help us. For every new customer that you refer to us for an engine service we will credit you $100 from your next bill.
Monthly Check Program
We would also like to make everyone aware of the popular monthly boat check service that we offer. This is an excellent service that has huge benefits of preventative maintenance and reducing the chance of breakdowns. For a small monthly fee starting at $50 we will have a qualified mechanic inspect your boat, operate the systems and inspect for any potential issues developing. We can even include a clean if required, making sure your boat is ready to use when you want it to be. Please contact us here if you would like a quote on your vessel.
Tricks of the Trade
Well we may get in trouble from colleagues for letting you all in on some basic tricks that we may use from time to time – but we say why not, so here goes: ‘VASELINE’ - now I hear you making wisecracks at us – but seriously this sports grease has many uses in our trade, some of which include:
· Smear over serial plates and stickers when painting an engine – then simply wipe off after painting. This is much quicker and effective than using masking tape.
· Use on the end of a spanner or screwdriver to hold that bolt or nut that you have to balance to get into place.
Use when assembling needle bearings in outboards – the Vaseline will just run off when engine gets hot
